PROFESSIONAL LEGAL BACKGROUND: 1964-1972, Deputy Attorney General in the Sacramento Office of the California Attorney General, representing the State of California in criminal trials and appeals; 1972-1983, Assistant Attorney General, in charge of the Attorney General’s San Diego Office, Criminal Division; 1983, Chief Assistant Attorney General, in statewide charge of the Attorney General’s Criminal Division supervising all aspects of criminal trials, appeals and investigations.

JUDICIAL BACKGROUND: Appointed to the San Diego County Superior Court, July 25, 1983, where he served in the court’s civil, criminal, law and motion, and juvenile departments; appointed to the Court of Appeal as Presiding Justice of the Fourth Appellate District, Division One in San Diego, July 30, 1985. The court hears appeals from superior court cases from San Diego and Imperial Counties.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES/ASSOCIATIONS/AFFILIATIONS: Administrative Presiding Justice for the Fourth District, 1988-present; Chair of the Judicial Council Committee on Criminal Trial Delay Reduction, 1990-1991; Member of the Judicial Council, 1991-1994; Chair of Library Technology Committee, 1992-1993; Chair of Judicial Council Rules and Forms Committee, 1994; Co-chair of Judicial Council Court Technology Committee, 1994; Current Chair of the legislatively-created Task Force on Court Facilities.

PROFESSIONAL TEACHING/EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES: Lecturer on juvenile law, appellate procedure and legal writing in programs for the California Judges Association, Center for Judicial Education, San Diego’s law schools and a variety of bar and professional groups.
