PROFESSIONAL LEGAL BACKGROUND: 1962-1965, Active duty, U.S. Marine Corps, performed legal duties in connection with assignments as battalion staff officer and company commander; 1965-1985, private business law practice.

JUDICIAL BACKGROUND: Presiding Justice, Court of Appeal, Fourth Appellate District, Division Three, 1990 to date; Judge, Orange County Superior Court, 1985-1990; served as temporary superior court judge 1978; as temporary appellate justice, 1988; assigned to serve temporarily for brief periods on the California Supreme Court during 1992 and 1994.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES/ASSOCIATIONS/AFFILIATIONS: Member, Irvine City Council, 1976 to 1985 and served as Mayor, City of Irvine, during four years while a council member; served on the Executive Committee, Southern California Association of Governments, 1984-1985.

EDUCATIONAL/PROFESSIONAL HONORS AND AWARDS: McRoberts law scholarship recipient, law school moot court winner; Honorary Doctorate of Law, California Western School of Law.

PROFESSIONAL TEACHING/EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES: Instructor, University of California, Irvine, teaching selected legal problems for business, 1981; Member of the Orange County Bar Association Trial Practice faculty, 1987-1990.
