PROFESSIONAL LEGAL BACKGROUND: Assistant United States Attorney (federal prosecutor), 1968-1970, prosecuted drug smugglers, drug dealers, bank robbers, counterfeiters and others who had committed various federal criminal offenses; Kindel and Anderson law firm, 1970-1978, business law practice.
JUDICIAL BACKGROUND: Superior Court Judge, 1978-1982, presided over civil and criminal trials and motions and also heard appeals from municipal court; Associate Justice, California Court of Appeal, Fourth District, 1982-present; also served temporarily on the California Supreme Court.
PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES/ASSOCIATIONS/AFFILIATIONS: Chairperson, California Appellate Courts Institute, 1993; Member, Judicial Council Library Technology Committee, 1993-1998; Member, Judicial Council Uniform Law and Motion Rules Committee, 1980-1981; President, Peter Elliott American Inn of Court, 1994.
EDUCATIONAL/PROFESSIONAL HONORS AND AWARDS: Franklin G. West Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the local bar association in 1994; Appellate Justice of the Year, presented by a consumer attorneys association in 1994.
PROFESSIONAL TEACHING/EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES: Instructor-Lecturer on criminal and civil law at continuing legal education programs for judges and lawyers approximately 100 times; Lecturer in appellate practice, University of Southern California Law School; President and member of University of Minnesota Law School Board of Visitors, 1990-1996.
COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES: President, Tustin Bobby Sox, girls softball program; coached dozens of youth baseball, softball and football teams; frequent speaker on courts and law to community groups.
