EDUCATION: B.A. (Cum Laude) Loyola Marymount University, 1968; J.D. University of California (Boalt Hall) 1971.

PROFESSIONAL LEGAL BACKGROUND: Deputy District Attorney, 1972-1986; prosecuted murderers, rapists, drug dealers, drunk drivers, child molesters and others who had violated California law.

JUDICIAL BACKGROUND: Elected to Superior Court in November, 1986, presided over criminal and civil trials and juvenile court actions, heard appeals from Municipal Court; assigned by California Supreme Court as temporary appellate justice from April to December 1994; appointed to Court of Appeal, 1997.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES/ASSOCIATIONS/AFFILIATIONS: As an attorney: twice elected President of Association of Deputy District Attorneys, twice elected to Board of Directors of county bar association, Outstanding Prosecutor Award, County Narcotics Officers Association. As a judge: California Judges’ Association, Superior Court Executive Committee, 1988, 1995.

EDUCATIONAL/PROFESSIONAL HONORS AND AWARDS: National Judicial College Scholarship Recipient, 1991; Hispanic Bar Association Judge of the Year, 1997.

PROFESSIONAL TEACHING/EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES: Served on Adjunct Faculties of both Chapman University and Western State University Schools of Law; chosen to teach other judges at California Judicial College four times and at numerous seminars; author of one book and dozens of articles on the law for both consumer and legal publications.

COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES: Board of Directors, National Conference of Christians and Jews; Board of Directors, Fair Share 502 (Charity benefiting homeless children); Goal Judge, National Hockey League.
