(1983 to 1986); Counsel to the President’s Task Force on Victim’s of Crime, Washington D.C. (1982); Senior Deputy District Attorney, Alameda County District Attorney’s Office (1980 to 1983); Deputy District Attorney, Alameda County District Attorney’s Office (1973 to 1980).

JUDICIAL BACKGROUND: Associate Justice, California Court of Appeal, First Appellate District, Division Four (1997 to present); Judge of the Alameda County Superior Court (1986 to 1997) (elected 1988, 1994), judicial assignments included criminal, civil, family law, juvenile, mental health, family violence, and case settlement calendars and trial departments.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES/ASSOCIATIONS/AFFILIATIONS: Appellate Indigent Defense Oversight Advisory Committee (1998); Judicial Council Trial Court Presiding Judges Standing Advisory Committee (1994, 1995); Chair, Alameda County Superior Court Executive Committee (1994, 1995); Chair, Alameda County Court Coordination Committee (1995); Chair, Alameda County Superior Court Personnel Committee (1992, 1993); Chair, Alameda County Superior Court Merger Committee (1991, 1992); California Judges Association; Alameda County Bar Association (California District Attorney’s Association).

EDUCATIONAL/PROFESSIONAL HONORS AND AWARDS: Alameda-Contra Costa Trial Lawyers Association, special recognition award (1995); Elected Presiding Judge by the Judges of the Alameda County Superior Court (1994, 1995).

PROFESSIONAL TEACHING/EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES: Membership in the American Inn of Court bench and bar legal education program in Alameda County; represented the Alameda County Superior Court, the United States Department of Justice, and the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office on various educational panels; as an Associate Deputy Attorney General duties included service as Co-Chair of the Advisory Committee for the National Center for State and Local Law Enforcement Training; as a Senior Deputy District Attorney was responsible for training and evaluation of trial attorney personnel, the development of substantive legal and trial practice materials and programs, and the teaching of trial practice skills.

COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES: Membership on the boards and participation in the activities of community service organizations directed to providing youth services such as child care, employment and recreational opportunities, and educational assistance.
